Scattered Memories: Chapter 2 - Red

“Thank god school is over.” Ryohei said as he stretched his arms above him. “It’s a shame that it’s going to rain…” I said, looking at the gray rain clouds gathering above. “Hey, let’s meet up at my house in a bit. I need to pick up a package from the post office.” I waved to Ryohei as I walked away. It began to rain when I reached the post office, everyone was in a hurry to get out of the rain. I sighed, remembering that I didn’t have an umbrella. I heard a distant shouting over the noise of the crowd, I turned around to see a girl holding a red umbrella running into the alley behind the post office. Strange, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen her in the school hallways before, since she was wearing the girl’s uniform of my school. I shrugged it off and resumed what I was doing. I opened the door of the post office and walked up to the man behind the register. He looked up from what he was doing, “Yes? How may I help you?” He said in a bored tone. “Uh, I’m here to pick up a package.” “Name?” “Konishi, Misaki.” He got up with a sigh and left to get my package from the back. It seemed like forever, my mind began to drift back to the girl running, until he came back mumbling with a small box in his hands. I took the box from him and placed it inside of my backpack. I walk out of the post office and sighed, remembering the fact that it was raining. I looked around and saw the alley where the girl entered, I know that I shouldn’t be so curious, but I went into the alley. It was a dead end, expect a ladder on a wall of a building. I went up the ladder, when I reached the top, nobody was there. I walked around the roof, trying to look for the girl with the red umbrella. I looked over the side of the roof and I saw that she was lying on the ground and her umbrella was next to her.
